5 Coffee Brands To Watch Out For

It’s safe to say that without coffee, The Doers would probably not be in existence. We are coffee-drinking fiends over here! From the first jolt of energy in the morning, to that afternoon pick-me-up and a cheeky espresso martini (or two) thrown in for good measure by the time evening comes around. With 95 million cups of coffee being consumed in the UK, every single day, the coffee industry is vast.

With the craft drinks revolution still very much booming, it’s no surprise that we have seen a huge rise in specialty coffee and independent brewers. Consumption is growing at 13% a year - there is no sign of growth slowing any time soon.

The 2020-2021 lockdowns drove a new appreciation for coffee. With the luxury of a grab and go coffee stripped away, coffee lovers turned to their own kitchens to try and recreate their favourite hot beverage. TikTok was filled with tips and tricks on how to do latte art at home and the sales of fancy at-home coffee machines soared. With a developed interest in coffee and a furthered education in how it’s produced, there’s been a renewed love of independent coffee makers and sustainability of the coffee industry.

Now, with “normality” fully resumed, we’re all getting our coffee fixes in on a normal service. Coffee shops are once again filled with the laptop lurching brigade (guilty as charged) and our hands have returned to being clutched around a coffee cup at every given moment.

Our love for independent coffee producers is stronger than ever.

So we’ve shared a few of our favourites to help keep your caffeine levels up this Winter.

Rave

The straight-talking Rave Coffee minces no words about who they are. They are passionate coffee roasters, with a heart of gold. Whilst making extremely great coffee, they also make sure they’re good for the people and the planet. 1% of their profit goes to environmental projects, which they proudly discuss at all touch points.

So shall we delve into what we love about the brand marketing? We’ll start with the obvious first, they have very strong and recognisable branding. Whilst they do hold their hands up and note they do not prioritise ‘sexy packaging’ we couldn’t agree less. Their packaging, much like their ethos is simple, and clean with a tad bit of fun for good measure.

Marketing-wise, they’re pretty active on their social channels, with their branding a prevalent part. Their audience seemingly has a strong love for them, meaning they’re well on their way to building out their brand loyalty. We’re excited to see how this brand develops in 2023.

Assembly

The beautiful minimalistic styled brand, Assembly has understood the concept of making a truly great product in a variety of ways. Asides from being able to get your bean fix from their standard e-com shop, they’ve also launched a popular subscription service as well as aligning itself well and stocking with brands such as Selfridges.

In terms of their brand marketing, simplicity is key and they’re clear about the origins of their beans. Their no-fuss approach feels calming and easily worthy of your trust (and your pound). We also love their content marketing, their blog on its own is full of original and helpful content, super rich in SEO too - top marks from us!

Girls Who Grind Coffee

Coffee that tastes amazing and sticks it to the patriarchy? What more could you want? Girls Who Grind Coffee is a brand that puts women at the forefront of its values. They solely work with female producers and make sure to give back 10% of the sale price of their retail coffees to those producers.

The brand mission is clear, activism runs through their veins, and their marketing? Well, they use that to portray their strong message. A particular highlight? Using their negative reviews (about their female-empowered messaging, not their coffee!) to drive home the reason why they created the brand in the first place.

There truly is nothing more exciting that a brand that isn’t scared to truly wear its values on its sleeve.

Ozone Coffee Roasters

This is a favourite for Jess. An international specialty coffee company, founded over 20 years ago, Ozone keep community at the forefront of their business. From their communications with their producers to the customers who frequent their eateries both in the UK and New Zealand. Their purpose is centralised on leading enduring change for the way coffee is valued, grown, produced and enjoyed.

We love their Shoreditch outpost - whilst the coffee is banging, their breakfast is even better. It’s the perfect way to spend time brunching with friends.

Their branding is simple but cool. Their website is focused on user experience and has the perfect balance of information, personality and a demonstrable passion for coffee. They prove their worth through their words and their actions live up to them.

Redemption Roasters

Redemption Roasters are the epitome of a coffee brand doing good. They identified that people leaving prison are 50% more likely to reoffend if they leave without skills or a job. They have created prison academies and community training programmes to break that cycle by teaching prison residents and people at risk of crime with the skills they need for a career in their own coffee shops and with their external partners.

They roast all of their coffee inside their prison roastery at HMP The Mount. They have 10 coffee shops in the UK, run by ex offenders.

We love a philanthropic brand and Redemption Roasters have all the makings of a great one. They communicate the work they do clearly and are a fine example of a brand built on giving back to the community. Plus, their coffee is damn tasty!

Right, so who’s ready for a cup of coffee?
